Country of origin: Finland Location: Turku, Varsinais-Suomi Status: Active Formed in: 1988 Genre: Death 'n' Roll/Grindcore (early); Stoner/Garage Rock (later) Lyrical themes: Gore, Philosophy, Society Current label: Svart Records Years active: 1988 (as Repulse), 1988-1998, 2006, 2011-present ysma is considered by some to be the first ever Finnish grindcore band. However, the group quickly moved away from extreme music and then evolved into a stylistic mix of '70s heavy rock in the vein of Black Sabbath and death metal. Then they changed their style again into pure retro rock and finally into pop. Many Finnish death metal bands, like Convulse, Lubricant, Paraxism, Godfall, Pakeni, and Disgrace followed in Xysma's steps. Split up in 1998. After Thee Stranius's death in 2006, the band reunited for one gig in September 2006. The band's name means "membranous shreds in the faeces"
