Country of origin: United States Location: New York, New York Status: Changed name Formed in: 1984 Genre: Speed/Thrash Metal/Crossover Themes: War, Political incorrectness, Cynicism, Humour Last label: Roadrunner Records Years active: 1983-1984 (as Disciple), 1984-1990, 1996, 2006-2010, 2017-present (as Carnivore A.D.) The band was formed in 1983 under the name Disciple by bassist Petrus (Peter) Ratajczyk, drummer Louie Beateaux, guitarist Larry, and vocalist Enrico. Larry was soon replaced by Stan Pillis. In January '84 they changed their name to Carnivore, and replaced Pillis with Keith Alexander. Peter took Enrico's place on vocals, though it's unclear whether that happened prior to, or very shortly after their name change to Carnivore. The band's first gig took place on April 26th, 1984 at Zappa's (a.k.a. The Hangout) in Brooklyn, where they arrived on stage wearing fur, camouflage, shoulder pads, bones, grenades, and 8" spikes. They reunited in 2006. The last reunion was in 1996 when original Carnivore members Louie & Marc joined Pete for a short week-long tour from NYC to Milwaukee. Following the death of Steele in 2010, the band broke up permanently. In August 2017, Marc Piovanetti announced a Carnivore reunion under the name Carnivore A.D., with Joe Branciforte and original member Louie Beateaux both on drums and Baron Misuraca filling in for Steele on bass and vocals. Guitar tech John Watson played in Blood of Kings and was later a guitar tech for Type O Negative. LP and CD versions of an unofficial bootleg release titled "Thermonuclear Warriors: The Rarities 1981-2007" that featured Carnivore and Fallout songs, on The Peter Steele Appreciation Society label appeared in July 2020. The CD version contains 15 more Carnivore songs than the LP version.
