Wretched Love Songs

Wretched Love Songs

The title of Maximilian Hecker's ninth studio album, produced by Johannes Feige and mixed by Tommi Eckart, appears to refer to his first record, "Infinite Love Songs" (2001). However, what we have here is, in reality, no tongue-in-cheek analogy to his debut. In fact, Hecker deals with his difficulties to love on WRETCHED LOVE SONGS, his lack of basic trust, his having remained a child, at least in dating situations, and his wretched attempts to successfully lead a grown-up love relationship. Four songs on the album carry the title "My Wretched Love", however, all songs on WRETCHED LOVE SONGS, not just those four, address Hecker's attachment trauma, his early childhood and the times of the birth of his severely disabled sister who was born when Hecker was only two years old. For the first time, on WRETCHED LOVE SONGS, Hecker has allowed someone else, Johannes Feige, his producer, to arrange his songs. Feige, originally Hecker's live guitar player, also works as a producer nowadays and had, apart from WRETCHED LOVE SONGS, already produced Hecker's 2015 album "Spellbound Scenes of My Cure". And finally, the larger-than-life-sound on WRETCHED LOVE SONGS is due to Tommi Eckart, Inga Humpe's counterpart in German electro pop duo zweiraumwohnung, who, as mixing engineer on the album, doesn't show any fear of contact with bombast and tasteful aggrandisement in a charming manner.
