Nasty Girl

Nasty Girl

Sabb & Zenbi feat Born I Music Nasty Girl Great Stuff Recordings It’s been a while since hip-house has reared its head in these parts, so we’re most thankful for Sabb & Zenbi’s new collaboration with rapper Born I Music. Nasty Girl takes a low-slung, shuffling groove that blends 808 snares with nu skool tech house rhythms, and allows the sordid vocal to take centre stage. Born I Music’s sleazy rhymes make this a great mix tool and an absolute joy to blend with. The Dirty Dub edit flips the script and delivers a more tribal-tinged techno monster, with choice snippets of the rap doing the damage. On the remix front, Nelski goes sprightly electronic house for his rework. An irresistible analog b-line funks its way around deft organ chords and snappy beats, with supremely cool sub-bass breakbeat interludes along the way and rasping lead lines thereafter. Tons of ideas are poured into his remix, Nelski showing up lesser producers as just plain lazy. It’s a very clever, fast-moving rework, and one that’s hard to put into words given just how much it’s got going on. Sonny Wharton rounds off this phat package with his chunky refix, looping the vocal up, bitcrushing it ever so gently and lacing it a typically saucy beast of a bassline. Less is more as far as he’s concerned, with the focus on winding hips and popping shoulders as succinctly as possible. Mission very much accomplished.
