Promises

Singer-songwriter Dave Thomas Junior has a penchant for creating emotional yet comforting music that is part dreamy and gentle in its soft acoustic quality. On his album, ‘Promises,’ Dave reflects on his music’s role not only for himself but how it resonates with listeners - and how impactful the process is, and how he hopes others find solace in them as well. In his own words: “Ever since I had those songs featured on After Life I have had a new perspective on the music I make. I got so many messages from people who had found some sort of breakthrough or release or insight from the music, and that felt like a real purpose, beyond just looking inside myself. I think I was always doing music as a form of self therapy, but this really gave me the perspective that if I’m feeling something, I can be less afraid of it. Sometimes I might even want to get closer to an unpleasant thought or feeling so I can try to crystalize it. These songs are a result of that path I’ve been on. Trying to step outside and notice and look, which has been so helpful for me and I hope it will be for those who listen.” The song “Redshift” starts off slow and ethereal, showcasing Dave’s tender voice with a dreamlike build. The track culminates in a wake-up call of cinematic nature reckoning with the idea that sometimes there is no rhyme or reason to how things shape up - ending on the line “And it’s so so lonely out here / Here in the redshift.” Dave’s rich harmonies in between luscious arrangements is reminiscent of contemporaries such as Imaginary Future & The Paper Kites.
