The Best of Oliver Jones, Vol. 1

Jazz pianist Oliver Jones is one of Canada’s most beloved and admired musicians and most distinguished cultural ambassadors. Born in Montreal’s Little Burgundy, he studied piano with Daisy Peterson Sweeny, the sister of Oscar Peterson. In his 77 year long career, he has achieved legendary status in the international jazz community, toured tirelessly in Canada and around the world, and devoted much of his time to encouraging young Canadian musicians as they begin their careers. In addition to his performances in concert, in clubs, at prestigious international festivals, and with major orchestras, he has released 23 recordings on the Justin Time Records label. He was profiled in a National Film Board documentary ‘Oliver Jones in Africa’ and most recently was the subject of the documentary – ‘Oliver Jones Mind, Hands and Heart.’ His many awards and honours include the Order of Canada, the Order of Quebec, several Félix and Juno Awards, the Martin Luther King, Jr. Award for Excellence in Music, several honorary doctorates and the Governor General’s Performing Arts Award, Canada’s highest honour in the performing arts.
